(Verhalen) and was referred to Mr. Stumpf (?) (201-3^7-1200) with whoa I discussed the industry and markets in the 1960's. Stumpf explained that the major sailers of asbestos-containing sprays were his firm and these others* 1. Asbestospray Coro, of New Jersey 2. Sprayorstft Corp. in New York, which bought Asbestospray 3. Spraydon, which manufactured in Raritan, HJ, some sales in Ft. Lauderdale (no phone listed in either place, but Stumpf said they're still in business) k. turner and Nowall made "Limpet" asbestos spray, sold in the US by Keasbey and MattIsoni Atlas Asbestos handled it in Canada and may have made it and even sold it in the US. Universal lixe-2er in Arlington, VA was another small on in the field My search through 1956, 1961, and 1966 volumes of "Sweets Industrial Construction File* turned up several others* 9. Jffi Detriok Co./Insulation division (1961) sold "Pyroseat" (in Chicago)(product photos) 10, Thermo-fT Mfg. Co. on Sfiwards 3t. in Houston sold 8Thermo-Kote" (196b), ads show workmen without respirators spraying it (as do ads for Limpet by K & M) 11. Columbia Acoustic and Fireproofing Co. made CArCO, this remained the product's name under the same company now known as U.S. .Mineral Products Co. of Stanhope, NJ. Their 1966 ad in Sweets lists prominent buildings where their stuff was used, all cVer the country. The products were actually called Cafco Blase-Shield. Additional possibilities are these, also fFoa Sweetsi a. lagle-Pitcher made "Spray-Mastic* in 1956* though the ad does not say asbestos, it almost certainly had asbestos in it. b. If this product had Underwriters approval as something other than "Fiber (Sprayed)" it should have appeared somewhere in U. L. annual catalogs. It may have been at first approved as a decorative coating with minimal fire resistance properties, or as sound insulation, et. An effort should be made to find this and other early sprayed products that may have contained asbestos (and probably did), y.L, at one time had the ingredient formulas for the products tested at U.L. and so their files, if still in existence for these old products, would be most helpful.
