Herbicide and Miscarriages

Today's post examines two newspaper articles from February, 1980. The articles describe the plight of a handful of women from Missoula, Montana, who suffered several miscarriages. They filed a lawsuit against Chemical Co. and other corpoarations for manufacturing herbicides "in a negligent and reckless manner."

As evidence of something that was gravely wrong in the area, one of the article reports that the Condon area in Missoula had almost no births that year:

The women raised the issue of corporate transparency, noting that it was almost impossible to figure out who sprayed what in their neighborhood.

Another woman also mentioned how companies did not like "questions being asked."

This article illustrates just how untouchable corporations were in the face of the incalculable damage they caused people. Many had to suffer life altering damage before companies were held accountable for their actions.
